Coaches

Each head swim coach may submit recommendation letters for up to two swimmers each year, regardless of the number of teams that coach represents. Exceptions to this rule may be considered only when an appeal is made to the Scholarship committee. If a team has more than five senior swimmers that coach should apply to recommend more swimmers. The rule of thumb is one candidate per five swimmers, beyond the first two candidates. Consider the following when preparing your letters of recommendation:
  • Character of the individual
  • Extra Curricular activities
  • Volunteer work (if applicable)
  • Attitude
  • Commitment to your SAIL team
Letters of recommendation must be received or postmarked on or before the Friday following the second dual/tri meet. Any postmarked after this deadline will not be considered. Please include the swimmer's address and phone number in your letter. The Scholarship Committee will notify the seniors of their candidacy.

Candidates

Each recommended candidate will be notified and asked to submit an essay on "What SAIL Has Meant To Me" to be received on or before the Thursday before Divisionals. Scholarship awards will be made during the Classics swim meet. SAIL Reps of winning swimmers will be notified before hand to ensure the attendance of winners and their families.

SAIL Reps

SAIL Reps are responsible to:
  • recommend your coach if he/she is also a senior swimmer eligible for the scholarship
  • make sure coach(es) know about the scholarship
  • make sure the coach(es) have made their choices in a timely manner
  • provide any feedback and/or resource your coach(es) may need in making their decision and/or preparing their letters
  • make sure coach(es)' recommendation letters are submitted (postmarked) and e-mailed by the deadline
